Pride in Diversity: Supporting LGBT Colleagues in the Workplace

16th September 2020, Online

Two decades into the twenty-first century, LGBT identity can present significant disadvantage and is still relatively taboo in the workplace. YouGov research reveals that more than a third of LGBT staff have hidden their sexual orientation or gender identity at work for fear of discrimination, with the figure rising to 51% for trans staff, and to 42% for BAME LGBT employees.

Staff cannot reach their full potential when concerned about, or experiencing, bias and unfair treatment. However, across all sectors there are straightforward steps which employers can take to support their LGBT staff and ensure their workforce wellbeing is prioritised. Creating an inclusive culture where employees feel accepted rather than a need to hide aspects of themselves enables staff to contribute their best work and be themselves without fear of penalty.

At our ‘Supporting LGBT Colleagues in the Workplace’ event, HR professionals and line managers will receive practical advice in ensuring that LGBT staff feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work. Simple strategies for building inclusivity and countering bias will be shared by expert speakers, with a view to ultimately driving better individual, business and organisational outcomes for all.
